Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. These are artificially made devices, usually made of acrylic, and are custom made to your mouth. Today’s dentures are made to be more natural-looking and comfortable to wear. They are a more affordable alternative solution to dental implants and are divided into 2 types, i.e. complete and partial dentures.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are used when all the natural teeth are missing. They can be further divided into 2 types, i.e. conventional and immediate dentures.

Conventional dentures are made for replacement after 8 to 12 weeks after teeth have been removed. On the other hand, immediate dentures are made in advance and are ready for replacement as soon as the teeth have been removed. One downside of this type is that they require more adjustments later on as during the healing period, bones and gum shrink over time.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used when there is at least one natural tooth remains either in the upper or lower jaw. The device usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink-colored base, which is connected to a metal wire that helps hold the dentures in the mouth. The device works by replacing the teeth on either side of the space with the help of crowns.
